Home Is Where the Heart Is

Charlotte (n): Pronounced /ˈʃɑːrlət/ is thlargest city in the state of North Carolina. Char(LIT) describes the amazing culture, growing population, and overall vibe that the "Queen City" has. Charlotte is home for me. Charlotte raised me, gave me amazing friends, and taught me valuable life lessons. Charlotte gave me the strength and confidence to move to New York and pursue my career. Though my talent and hustle takes place in New York right now, my heart never left Charlotte.

My friends over at 91+North sent me this Char-"LIT" tee and I had to rock it immediately. The creators are both native Charlotteans who moved to different states to pursue their careers, which led them to appreciate and love their hometown even more. Giving back to the Charlotte community is what we all stand for as successful women because what is success if you don't share it with others? When you purchase a tee, a percentage of the proceeds go towards the #Impact91 campaign, which helps impact the lives of young girls in the Charlotte community. Purchase your own tee HERE

Thank you again 91+North, and thank you Charlotte, for everything.

10 Fall 2016 Fashion Trends

10 Fall 2016 Fashion Trends

So as we are approaching the end of this very HOT summer, now is the perfect time to begin gathering your fall wardrobe essentials. All “Summer 16” we had our fun with nudes, bright colors, and let’s not forget our off the shoulder craze. I’ve already researched and gathered what will be 10 top fall 16’ fashion trends so take a look below!

1. The Choker

Yep, that’s right we will still be obsessing over our 90s inspired choker trend. The only difference for the fall is that we will be able to play with more metallic and chunkier chokers to go along with our fall colors.

2. The Leather Skirt
Leather (or pleather) skirts is one statement piece that will be perfect for this fall. The unique texture can make any outfit stand out from the crowd. It also serves as a good transition piece to rock into winter.

3. Velvet
Velvet has always been a sexy fabric for the cooler seasons. Crush velvet ankle boots and dresses will be killer this fall!

4. All Metallic Everything

Don’t believe the myth that metallic is only popular on New Year’s Eve. Anything metallic will be on trend this fall. Metallic jewelry and shoes can pop any outfit, as well as those bomb metallic nail polishes.

5. Burgundy and Spicy Mustard Shades

Warm shades of red are in every fall season and go with just about anything. Another color trend that will be popular this fall is spicy mustard. It is a statement color and might I add, looks radiant against our beautiful melaninated skin!

6. Denim on Denim on Denim
This 70s trend is definitely making a comeback this fall season. Pairing denim tops with matching bottoms will surely make you turn heads. You can rock a casual denim outfit or dress it up; either way it’s for sure going to be on my ready-to-wear list!

7. The Structured Bag

You can never go wrong with a good structured bag on your shoulder or hand. Whether it’s color-blocked or solid, these kind of bags will complete any outfit you wear this season.

8. Frayed Denim Culottes

Ok so i’m already obsessed with this trend but it’s going to be even better in the fall when I can pair it with my velvet ankle boots and a clean turtleneck.

9. Over the Knee Boots
These kind of boots would be considered another easy transitional piece for the fall/winter seasons. You can easily throw on a pair with a dress or a t-shirt and when it starts to get cooler add a bomber or pea coat and you’re good to go.

10. Suede
Last but definitely not least is anything suede. Once again, another 70s classic. Neutral colored suede skirts, hats and dresses will be so on trend this fall. The smooth texture adds some great depth to an outfit and can be worn in both the fall AND winter!

Summer Black

Topshop Bodysuit | Old Navy Culottes | Forever 21 Clutch | Steve Madden DIY Fur Heels

Who says you can't wear black during the summer? These breezy Old Navy pants helped me stay cool in the weather and they were so comfortable! I brought out my Steve Madden heels which I added feathers to in order to add some sass to this monochromatic look (tutorial on these shoes are in the blog archives). As always, the links to this outfit are italicized above in the description. Thanks for reading!
